When is O365 E3 the right choice?
Office 365 E3 fits if you need Office apps and collaboration tools at enterprise scale with no user cap, and you manage devices and identity elsewhere (for example an existing Intune or EMS agreement). It is also relevant for organizations that mainly need Exchange, SharePoint and Teams for many users without the full security stack.
When should you choose a different plan?
Choose Microsoft 365 E3 instead if you need a Windows Enterprise license, Intune device management, Conditional Access (Entra ID P1) or Defender for Endpoint. If you need advanced threat detection or Power BI Pro, that points to E5. If you're under 300 users, Business Premium often covers the need more cheaply.
