E5 is the right choice if you're in a regulated industry (finance, healthcare, government), have advanced security needs (SOC approach, automated threat response), or can consolidate expensive add-ons (Power BI, Teams Phone) in one license.
When should you choose a different plan?
Choose a different plan if you don't need advanced compliance or security. If you don't need E5's extra security and compliance features, E3 is $21/user/mo cheaper. If you're under 300 users, Business Premium may be sufficient.
